The boys loved "cam-ping" and have not stopped talking about it. We decided to go camping with our good friends the Sauls and the James in the Twin Lakes area. 6 adults and 5 boys on a mountain adventure- very fun! When we arrived, we realized that the huge tent that we borrowed was missing a pole. This 8 person tent was more like a motel than a tent. We had to rig it to a metal pole at our campsite just to keep it standing. Finally with everyone's help we got it up. We enjoyed a nice "hobo" meal and then tried to put all the kids to bed. J and N were so excited and had no intentions of sleeping. They kept jumping around in the tent. So much for that! And then the rain and lightning came....and yes we were rigged to a metal pole! We quickly gathered the boys and sought shelter in the car for the next hour and a half watching the amazing show! At least I had been able to scarf a s'more before the storm! The boys conked out immediately once they were in their car seats. Finally the lightning let up and we headed back to the tent. We hunkered down for the night, but I began to hear drips in our tent and could not get settled. When I went to investigate, I realized there was not just one puddle, but several. I was ready to pack it up and head home when I walked outside and realized the rain had stopped and the Milky Way was out in all its glory. We slept the night through and enjoyed some yummy pancakes and elk sausage in the morning. So, would we do it again? Absolutely, but we have vowed to invest in a good tent and the old one....well, I think it has found its way to tent heaven!
